It's rare that I see a commercial. I have this wonderful thing called a DVR and almost never watch live tv. However, since the summer season has started on TV, there has been less and less for my DVR to do so this past weekend while I was working on a little project, I had the tv on something on The Food Network and saw a commercial for recycled aluminum foil.
Aluminum.
Aluminum.
Doesn't matter how many times I type that, it still looks like I am spelling it wrong.
Anyway, as the picture says, the foil itself is 100% recycled AS IS the packaging! Yay for you Reynolds Wrap. Way to be green!

After I made my way all the way through the first two seasons, I sat back and had one very, very, wrong thought: I think I love Sylar.
I know I shouldn't.
He is a bad, bad, evil, rotten to the core villan.
He kills people... he killed his own mom.
But maybe... just maybe, he is a little misunderstood?
Maybe he just needs to find the right woman?
You know, one with red hair and blue eyes and a whole lot of freckles?
Maybe, if he found the right woman... all of his evil-y badness would go away?

And when I look at pictures like this one, I think HEY, I could be the right woman!
(29 is old enough to call youself "woman" right?)
Mmmmm, don't you just want to... mmmmmmmmm...
You know, I'm gonna keep that thought to myself.
Otherwise I'll have to change the rating of my blog.

I watched American Idol the year that Jordan Sparks won out over the adorable Blake Lewis who I was in love with and voted for like a gazillion times during the season.
And then I had to stop because American Idol takes up a lot of TV time and I try not to get sucked into new shows that take up a lot of TV time because I have to do things like feed my kids and bathe and go to work - all of which are interupted by the hundred hours of recorded television that my DVR will store.
But Emilee, my darling daughter, wanted to watch this season of AI and she wants to watch it with me. So now, twice a week, I am sucked into the world of singing and voting and judging and ruining my daughter's pristine idea of what her mother is like by saying that the only reason the blind guy is there is because he's blind.
What?
So, because I watch it and because I vote and because I have no social life to speak of, I am going to share with you who I think is going to win this year.

I dig him and I didn't even so much mind his crazy Ring of Fire last night.
Of course, I think he will get his money's worth from Lil Rounds and the chic with the super dark red hair and Danny, but I think he's in it for the win.

I expected more. But it's hard to live up to some of the theatrical awesomeness I've seen the last few weeks. I guess that really isn't fair.. I expected something different. I expected The Holiday again with different actors and a slightly different story line and Music & Lyrics was a very different movie.
Here's what Music & Lyrics had that the other movies either had in short supply or not at all: laugh out loud comedy. Like when you have to rewind something because you were laughing so hard at the joke that you missed what they said afterwards. And I have to say that it was utterly refreshing after the love stories aimed at the lonely girl. I mean, don't get me wrong, I am a sucker for lonely girl movies (I blame it on not having any of The Sex for a really friggen long time) this was just a change of pace from the seemingly similar films I've watched lately.
And an added bonus to this movie was the fact that Hugh Grant plays a "has been 80's pop star" complete with full music video shown at the beginning of the film. The music video alone is worth the rental fee.
In short? I really liked it. It was a good comedy with a twist of a love story. Enough so that you could actually watch this on a first or second date without the date becoming awkward. It has some very funny one liners thrown in excessively so it will keep you laughing enough that you won't realize until the next day when you are blogging about it that the story line was basically nonexistant. And that, my friends, is hard to do :)
It's a renter, not a buyer. And be ready for "POP goes my heart" to be stuck in your head :)

Well, since I seem to be watching so many movies these days, it only seems fair that I should tell ya'll about them.
I've just watched Miss Potter which is, by far, the cutest movie I've seen in a tremendously long time. I hadn't even heard of the movie until I saw it's preview on something I rented last week and people if you haven't heard of it either, take my word for it and go rent it.
The movie is about the author Beatrix Potter and just the sweetest little thing you will see this month, if not this year. It is the very definition of heartwarming and I am not ashamed to tell you that I pretty much kept the tissues next to me the entire time and not because it was sad but because it was so refreshingly happy that I found myself laughing and crying at the same time.
The friendship that develops between Beatrix and Millie reminded me so much of the friendships shown in my favorite movie of all time: Anne of Green Gables. And that, I assure you, is a complement as to how well the relationships developed in a short time.

So, I've devised a system for rating movies... a system that you will most likely only see here on LOC.
I am going to give Miss Potter four out of five Matthew McConaughey heads :P I highly recommend this movie. It was just so sweet that I would feel bad for you if you didn't get to see it. And it's totally safe to watch with the kiddos.

So last night I watched Because I Said So. And since this blog has apparently turned into a website where I review the latest movie that made me cry, I'll tell you about it.
Before I tell you about the movie though, let me tell you about the new boy I am in love with: Gabriel Macht

Isn't he adorable? Even more adorable if you see him when he first comes onto the screen and he is wearing his cute little hat and dressed like Blake Lewis from American Idol 6. And just too un-fucking-believably gorgeous.
*sigh*
It makes you want to scream "WHERE IS MY CUTE BOY? HEY UNIVERSE??? I THINK YOU FORGOT TO GIVE ME MY CUTE BOY!!"
And as if his being a cute boy weren't enough! Oh no, on top of THAT he is also a SINGLE DAD!
Just impale me now.
Note to self: These perfect guys only exist in the movies. They are not real, only in the movies Kate. Deep Breath.

Anyway, good points from the movie:
The mom was a single mom of three daughters (*ahem* - sound like anyone we know?) and she loves it. At one point another character (I think the dad from Seventh Heaven) is saying to her that it must have been hard having three girls and she just smiles and tells him that there are worse things.
And there are people. Much worse things.
And the mother and the daughters had a FANTASTIC relationship. They called each other on conference calls to gossip and they shopped together and went to spas together. I think of all the parts of the entire movie, my favorite was the relationship that the mom had with her daughters.
Anyway, I don't want to spoil the whole thing because I want you guys to watch this one.
Go rent The Holiday, Catch and Release & Because I Said So and have yourselves a nice little sobfest.

I just finished watching this movie and I loved it. Maybe I loved it because I can relate to being that girl, or maybe... no, that's why. It's because I can relate to being that girl.
What girl?
The monologue at the beginning explains it all:
"I've found almost everything ever written about love to be true. Shakespeare said "Journeys end in lovers meeting." What an extraordinary thought. Personally, I have not experienced anything remotely close to that, but I am more than willing to believe Shakespeare had. I suppose I think about love more than anyone really should. I am constantly amazed by its sheer power to alter and define our lives. It was Shakespeare who also said "love is blind". Now that is something I know to be true. For some quite inexplicably, love fades; for others love is simply lost. But then of course love can also be found, even if just for the night. And then, there's another kind of love: the cruelest kind. The one that almost kills its victims. Its called unrequited love. Of that I am an expert. Most love stories are about people who fall in love with each other. But what about the rest of us? What about our stories, those of us who fall in love alone? We are the victims of the one sided affair. We are the cursed of the loved ones. We are the unloved ones, the walking wounded. The handicapped without the advantage of a great parking space! Yes, you are looking at one such individual. And I have willingly loved that man for over three miserable years! The absolute worst years of my life! The worst Christmas', the worst Birthday's, New Years Eve's brought in by tears and valium. These years that I have been in love have been the darkest days of my life. All because I've been cursed by being in love with a man who does not and will not love me back. Oh god, just the sight of him! Heart pounding! Throat thickening! Absolutely can't swallow! All the usual symptoms."

This movie is excellent, more so if you've ever been that girl (or that boy, there's no gender discrimination here on LOC :P).

My favorite part of the whole movie is when Kate Winslet (who gave the introductory monologue) hands Jack Black a drink and they are sitting on the couch together talking after Jack Black has just found out that his girlfriend was cheating on him.
Kate says the following: "I understand feeling as small and as insignificant as humanly possible. And how it can actually ache in places you didn't know you had inside you. And it doesn't matter how many new haircuts you get, or gyms you join, or how many glasses of chardonnay you drink with your girlfriends... you still go to bed every night going over every detail and wonder what you did wrong or how you could have misunderstood. And how in the hell for that brief moment you could think that you were that happy. And sometimes you can even convince yourself that he'll see the light and show up at your door. And after all that, however long all that may be, you'll go somewhere new. And you'll meet people who make you feel worthwhile again. And little pieces of your soul will finally come back. And all that fuzzy stuff, those years of your life that you wasted, that will eventually begin to fade."

And she says it all with such heart felt emotion, tearing up even towards the end. And Jack Black watches her intently, listening to every word so sincerely. And after she finishes, she takes a deep breath and looks at him and he says, "Fuck. I think you need this more than I do." and hands her his drink.

Go. Rent it.
Especially you, my soul-sister. The girl who I can call and tell the most ridiculously minute details to and you get it because we've both been and still occasionally are that girl.

A few months ago, I was over at The Cake Lady's house and since it was cold, we were all hanging out inside (which we don't often do, even if it's cold).
We were watching this show where they auctioned off really kick ass old cars, some of which were one of a kind. Now, I have to tell you, previous to working at Fantasy Disco Ford, I didn't know a Ford from a Dodge and didn't care that I didn't know and didn't know that I didn't care that I didn't know.
Ha!
But of all the things I took away from that job, appreciating cars was one of them. Now does this mean I can talk engine shop with ya? Probably not, but I am learning.
So anyway, this auction show has some really kick ass one of a kind older cars on it and we are drooling and then gasping at the prices people are paying for them. When the show ends, another show I hadn't ever seen before comes on called PINKS.

If you've never seen the show, here is the basic premis: Two people race their cars, the winner takes home the other racer's ride.
Now there are two versions of this show. The first version is the one I mentioned above where two racers bring the suped up cars to the track and run the best three out of five races. Now the thing is, the loser can ask for lengths or that both racers run on motor only or only onephase of Nitro so there is usually a lot of haggling. The haggling is what makes it fun, two dudes all pissed off talking car jargon and this is where you learn all your stuff. There is also "sandbagging" which (for those of you not into street racing) is when one racer goes slower than they can so that they don't have to give away too many lengths on the next race.
Now the second version of the show is called PINKS All Out. And that is my favorite one to watch because there is no haggling and the cars are bad ass.
For All Out, they have like 300 cars come out and run as fast as they can run, no sandbagging allowed. It is seriously as fast as you can run and after you race two races, they take those times and hold you to them. If you run faster after those two runs, you're disqualified. After they run all the cars, they pick a time (9 seconds, 10 seconds) and they grab sixteen cars from that group and race them. They run one race and the winner moves on. There is 10k and a bunch of tools for the winner.
The great thing about this race is that you just run hard one time and the winner wins. Period.
Anyway, the reason I am telling you all of this? Because you need to check out this show. I'm telling you, it's awesome and you'll dig it :)
