What made my day today...
Friday, June 05, 2009

Errr... recycled bad-ass website of the day?
Ehch, you know what?
I am so over worrying about whether the cool stuff I've found fits into a box.
I'm done with boxes.
And you should be too because they are sooo not good for the environment.
I'm just saying.
You know what happens when you fit things in a box?
You become a square and even if the song says that it's hip to be square, I'm no square.
According to Cosmo, I'm more pear shaped anyway...
But that has nothing to do with this does it?
Freecycle.org is a rocking rad website.
Have you been there before?
It's similar to craigslist EXCEPT that it is the ultimate recycling website as in, you give stuff away or you go and get stuff
for free. Maybe that's where the title came from huh?
It's either trashed or freecycled.
Their tag line could be "one man's trash is another man's treasure" except that they are too cool for that.
So instead their motto is "changing the world one gift at a time"...
Niiice right?
From their homepage:
Welcome! The Freecycle Network™ is made up of 4,760 groups with 6,790,000 members across the globe. It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. It's all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills. Each local group is moderated by a local volunteer (them's good people). Membership is free. To sign up, find your community by entering it into the search box above or by clicking on “Browse Groups” above the search box. Have fun! Have fun indeed.
I've already joined three local groups and it's VERY user friendly.
You can even do it at work!
Ehhh, not that I am doing anything at work that isn't work related or anything.
Yo, yo, yo peeps, email me bad ass recycled stuff yo. Link's on the right.

God, I have been Miss Effing Cranky-Pants lately
I'm sorry ya'll! I have to admit that Friday really sucked a lot of my positivity out of me. When I hurt my foot on the stupid slippery porch, it really kicked my ass and it was hard for me to pull out of that mood. It was just such a huge reminder of how much this sucks and how much I hate not being able to walk.
And then the surgery which hurt. like. hell. yesterday and I was even more down.
It's hard to stay up and happy when you are in pain and unable to do much about it or the ridiculous nausea that came with it. And even more so when it feels like your house is crumbling to ruins around you. And your brother, who is the only other adult help, has had the flu for like a week and although he's trying he really can't do much and you don't blame him but then you do because he can walk and then you feel bad about that because you know he really feels horrible. And when it's weeks away from Christmas and you have NO IDEA how you are going to shop for fuck's sake because it's so hard.
But then last night happens. Last night when the pain finally melted into something tolerable and I could keep crackers down and then my antibiotics and some pain meds. Last night when the ABSOLUTELY amazing Fairy comes over and cleans my kitchen and my living room because she is just fucking sweet as hell. When Noah takes Amanda and Emilee and picks up dinner so I don't have to worry about what everyone will eat and the fact that the kitchen will be a sty afterwards,
If you know me, you know that I CAN'T STAND to ask for help. And I can't stand to not be able to do something myself. I am proud and stubborn and INDEPENDENT and I have a helluva time admitting I can't do something even when I CAN'T, the last thing I want to do is call someone and ask them for help. Even if EVERYONE I know has called me and offered it. And Fairy, because she is amazing and because she really knows me, came over and told me to shutthefuckup while she cleaned. Because she know I won't ask and because she knows I am pulling all of my hair out and biting all of my nails off and stewing in the pain that is a messy house.
She is totally getting something awesome for Christmas.
But it was that reminder that I am so very blessed to have people like her in my life and so blessed that my foot will eventually heal and that I am going to survive this period of time and one day look back at it and realize that yeah I had to have some humility but it wasn't the worst thing to ever happen to me.
And sure enough, this morning, the pain was even a little more tolerable and I got up at 4:30 and got in the shower (because I am SO caught up on sleep) and got ready for work. And now I am here and on Darvocet rather than hydrocodone and sipping Starbucks and checking all my email and life is slowly coming back to normal. I have an appointment with my podiatrist today and I should have my cast in the next week or two.
But more importantly Miss Effing Cranky-Pants is in hiding and the old katehopeeden you know and adore (I hope :P) is back and apologizing for the cranky posts and whiney phone calls.
Thank you all so much for calling to check on me (even if I didn't answer the phone) and emailing me (even if I didn't answer you) and posting comments (even if my answer posts were bitchy). I love you guys and I am so lucky to have all of these great friends.

Santa Letters

Every year The Cake Lady does awesome Santa letters.
She gets the name of the child and then three or four peices of personal information from the parents and then writes these absolutely wonderful letters to these kids and sends them off to be stamped "from the North Pole" somewhere in Alaska and sealed with a was "S" seal!
This year, even with all that is going on in her life (new job, just closed on her new house, being a mother of three and just pretty much being an all around rockin' chic), she is still going to do the letters.
So, if you would like to get your Santa letter for your child(ren) or a friend or a loved one or a neice or granddaughter or god son or whatever, shoot me an
email and I will let you know where to send the info. These aren't just limited to the kiddos! I don't think I've went a single year without my Santa letter and I always have to read mine when I am alone because they always make me cry and remind me exactly how lucky I am to have The Cake Lady in my life. So if you have a friend who needs a little extra hug this year? Make sure and send them one too!
The cost is only one dollar and that really just covers postage. The time and effort and awesomeness that The Cake Lady puts into this every year? That's all free - straight from her heart.

overheard
"So, I was cruising down by the medical center and I see like six really hot chics sitting there by the road. I pull over and say, "I'm looking for some women to pose for Art Class and I was wondering if any of you ladies might be interested..." Four of the six get up and say that they would be and ask where they need to go. I tell them that would be great and give them the address. As I am driving away one of the ladies asks me who I am. So, I smile and extend my arm to shake her hand and say, "My name is Art Class."
One of my favorite co-workers came in today and told me that little story.
I now have a name for him: Rico Suave.

Shame on me, Shame on the things that I be...
Snow, who is The Most Amazing & Awesome Chic in the world today, sent me a text last night asking me what the name of the new Matchbox Twenty song was.
I raised a confused eyebrow and sent her back a text saying that Rob Thomas hadn't called me to approve any new MB20 songs yet so she surely must be confused.
But confused she was not.
And shocked I was.
(*Ok, enough Yoda talk, lol. -- no offense Yoda! :P)
Evidentally, Rob bypassed me this time on the song approval. Surely a grevious error on his part and I'm sure he will call any second to apologize.
In the meantime, they do have a new song out! AND A NEW ALBUM COMING OUT OCTOBER SECOND!!!
And do you know what that means people?
DO YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS?
Another tour BABY!
And who is going to go?
Um yeah, THAT WOULD BE ME!
God, I could do a friggen cartwheel right now.
:)
So, click on this picture (below) to go their website and listen to the new song :)

ps.ALL comments today must be accompanied by your favorite MB20 lyrics or they will be deleted people. DELETED!

Awkward is as awkward does…
So, the boy I mentioned in my last post (who shall remain nameless until such a time that he warrants a name)? Let me give you a little bit-o-background. He is one of the guys at my job (yes, yes, YES – I friggen know already about dating guys I work with ok? I remember Mr.I quite clearly, but let’s just ignore that one little detail for now ok? Because it’s that ONE little MINOR effing detail that could stand between me and the possibility of The Sex. And people? You don’t want to be one of the factors of that little detail standing between me and The Sex because I HAVEN’T HAD SEX IN A VERY,
VERY LONG TIME. Ok?)
Moving on.
Aside from sharing the same name as Amanda and Emilee’s dad, I have yet to find anything wrong with this boy. (Give me time, it’s only been a few weeks.) The first week I was working at Kick Ass New Job (KANJ? Maybe…), I was in my office listening to Damien Rice on the ipod and nameless boy walked by my office and then came back and popped his head and asked, “Are you listening to Damien Rice?” To which I responded, “Yes.” He said, “
Wow“ so I asked him, “Why? Is that bad?” And he said “No… it’s just, I don’t think anyone in this office even knows who Damien Rice
is”
(Which, btw, if you are one of those people, those sad, sad people who don’t know who Damien Rice is? My heart goes out to you and you seriously need to get your hands on Crimes and Blowers Daughter and Delicate and the coconut song on his new album. Seriously.)
So, he walked off and came back a minute later and handed me Damien Rice’s new album and then walked out. I waited a few minutes and then went to his office and asked him if I could borrow it and he said sure… actually he kind of said sure, it was more of a
yeah you can borrow it and I have a ton of other music here that you can borrow too because everyone kind of just bums his cds… And then he recommended a couple of other artists that I wrote down and CAN’T FIND now. One was Montagne I think…
Anyway, color me intrigued right? Here’s a guy that listens to Damien Rice.
There is one other thing I noticed too. Ok, when I am walking somewhere I snap my fingers. Like snap left and then right, quickly. *snap* *snap* *snappity* *snap* It’s just a nervous habit I guess or my inability to be still. Anyway, the other day, I noticed that he does it when he’s walking down the hallway too! (Check it out guys: THIS IS HOW LOONEY WE FEMALES ARE! WE NOTICE SHIT LIKE THAT!)
Ok, now fast forward to Monday. Monday, another guy that I work with popped his head in and asked me if I wanted him to grab me something to eat at whatever fat saturated place he was going to and I said yeah and gave him some cash. When he got back, he poked his head into my office (Did I mention I now have an OFFICE?? Yeah Baby!) and said food was here and to come eat in his office. I said I’d be there in a few minutes as I was in the middle of something. A few minutes later, I went in to eat and behind the desk is the dude who grabbed lunch and sitting in one of the two chairs
in front of the desk? You guessed it – nameless boy. I am all like
GREAT, because I really want to scarf down a burger in front of a guy I might like... especially when he is eating a
SALAD!Anyway, I plopped down with my 45,000-calorie lunch and tried to think of something to say. I made some casual conversation with guy who bought lunch about a picture he had on the wall that one of his kids had made and then I was apparently tapped because dude who grabbed lunch had to leave for like 6.5 minutes and I couldn’t think of anything to say to nameless guy.
Nothing. Not the weather. Or insects. Shoes. ANYTHING.
Did I think of anything? Nope.
Just sat there for every second of the 6.5 minutes nibbling French fries and counting the varying strands of awkward that were floating around the room.
It was awful.
Dude who bought lunch finally came back and we all finished eating and then nameless guy went back to his office and I went and slammed my head in the door repeatedly.
When I got home, I was talking to Fairy and telling her that CLEARLY this man had NO INTEREST IN ME WHATSOEVER and she said that I was wrong. She said that he was probably just as shy as I was about the whole thing, to which my darling Snow followed up that he was probably sitting there trying to think of something to say as well. Although I seriously doubt that.
But then, today, I saw a beam of light. Ok, more like a teeny tiny glimpse of a flicker… but light nonetheless.
But before I can tell you
that part, I gotta give you a little more background about new job. On my resume, it says I can type like 70wpm, which is true. During my interview with my Boss, he asked me about my computer skills and my typing skills and I responded that both are stellar. On my first day actually working, I was sitting in my boss’s office and we were talking about something and he suddenly stood up and asked me to come sit in his chair. He had been working on an email and I thought he was going to like transcribe to me or something. So he says, “type something” and I asked him what he wanted me to type and he was all like, “I don’t know. Just type…” and then he gave me like two lines of the email he was working on, which I began typing. I wasn’t even half way through when he stopped me and said, “dude, I can type WAY faster than you!” Like I had any idea I was being tested :P
Well now there is a running joke in the office about how I not only can’t type but I also lied about all of the things on my resume. So now, at any given opportunity, one of the guys will mention something about checking into those typing lessons for me or ask me if I know how to do something like… speak German and when I say no, they’ll make the comment that there’s one more thing I lied about on my resume.
Did I mention that I effing love it here?
Today, in our morning meeting, it was brought up by my boss that I was beginning my third week here and after asking me how I was liking everything, he asked everyone how I was doing. At which point everyone said that they loved me and I rocked. Which I do. And then, out of the blue, nameless boy says, “yeah, I hear she is up to nineteen words per minute.”
Holy crap. He just teased me.
I am back in the fourth grade and he’s just pulled one of my pigtails right?
It’s been too long people. I don’t know how to play this game any more. I’m all out of practice. What do you guys think?

and then there was bragging
I absolutely have to mention at this time that my middlest daughter, that would be the fantastic Emilee, brought home her TAKS test results (Giant Texas Standardized Test).
On the whole test, she missed only two.
Two.
She is so going to be supporting me in my old age :)

I [heart] Blake Lewis.
Totally don't care if you guys think I've lost it.
Ok, ok, ok.. maybe I
do care a little :)
Here's the thing though -- I can't really blame my American Idol watching on the kiddos any more since (A) they have pretty much stopped watching it and (B) I am totally hooked.
I mean, I
know the names of all the effing contestants - like, by heart.
So, here we go again with my American Idol review... I'd like to apologize in advance and blame this on the fact that I haven't been laid in a very long time.
1. Haley Scarnato... I am
supposed to like her. She is from San Antonio and I should support her but up until last night, I really,
really wanted her to go home. Last night I thought she finally put away her whole, I'm a
wedding funeral singer attitude and finally showed that she is a pretty girl who, if given the chance can rock the house.
2. Chris Richardson... I like him. I really do... but I know he won't win. He just doesn't have the ability to do very much with his voice. He can sing, don't get me wrong, but he just can't belt shit out. I think he has a career ahead of him though, in a Gavin DeGraw kind of way.
3. Stephanie Edwards... girl can sing. Last night though? Not so much. She'll still be here next week since Sanjaya will probably go home this week but she can't screw up again like she did last night.
4. Blake Lewis.... *sigh* (not like a boring sigh either, that was a sigh of adoration) Man I dig him. I think of all the people on this show, maybe all the people EVER on this show, he is the most creative
preformer. Dude has serious talent. You can tell every week that he busts his ass to get his song arranged and make it his and he just plain rocks at it. I dig him. I'd
date him. And I voted for him like twenty times last night.
5. Lakisha Jones... Yeah. Um. She wasn't very good last night. BUT she is still very good overall and I think she will be one of the last six for sure.
6. Phil Stacey... I like him, I really do. I think he will be one of the last six BUT he kind of has this old school music thing going on. He consistently sings songs I've never heard of and because of that I think he is losing votes. People want to hear songs that they
know.
7. Jordin Sparks... Again, I think she will be around a little while longer - maybe til the end. She is good and you can tell she is just a cool chic. I thought she did very good last night.
8. Sanjaya Malakar... Oh man... oh man oh man oh man... I really like him. I think he is just the sweetest boy. And he can sing (despite his rather weak preformances). I just wish he was more sure of himself. I have a feeling he is going home tonight.
9. Gina Glocksen... I dig her. I dig her energy and I wish she was a better singer. Last night she sucked. Not as bad as Sanjaya did, but not much better. And she is just so cool that I
want her to do better. I htink she has a future for sure but I don't think she will win.
10. Chris Sligh... I like him, I really do. And I think he has this whole Blue Brother singing thing going on... I don't think he will win... I don't think he will even make it much further. But he is a cool dude.
11. Melinda Doolittle... Man she irritates me. There is no saying the chic can't sing. She can sing. She made me like My Funny Valentine and I didn't even remotely like that song. But her whole Bambi Eyes thing gets on my nerves and she may be the nicest chic in the world but stop looking so surprised when people tell you that you can sing.
Obviously you can sing and well. She'll be around for awhile and she may even win.
Ok, there you go... thats who I dig and don't dig. Blake is at the top of my list right now.
And here is why.So, someone else out there is watching... right? What do you think??
